May 8, 2025 eblast:

April Showers really do bring May Flowers!

Introducing ours…Say Hello to Marmalade

Because she's as SWEET as she is beautiful!

After losing the chance to save Loyal, we sure needed a win.

And what a win this is.

Just look at that face.

It never ceases to amaze me how resilient a beagle's heart can be.

How determined a flower is after a storm.

But Marmalade is living proof.

We met for the first time in the shelter's outdoor run yesterday afternoon. Marmalade skipped the formalities of a silly stuffy paw shake and went straight for the kissing! Once she was satisfied my face was completely covered, off she went to bounce about and roll joyfully in something stinky in the grass (because she just had a bubble bath of course) as though life had given her nothing but sunshine and rainbows from the day she was born!

We sure can learn from a beagle like this.

Marmalade, guessed to be around 8 years old, was found abandoned on a commercial property. Her owner deemed to have been deported. Whatever the case may be that led to the abandonment, what remained was a sweet little butterball with visible signs of very concerning health troubles.

Covering her body are a multitude of masses, some of which are ulcerated. Dental disease is also evident. And it's not certain whether she's spayed. In fact, her finder thought she might be pregnant. Fortunately, an ultrasound has now ruled that out. But the masses are still in question. While one has been confirmed as an infected cyst, the others could not be identified by fine needle aspirate alone so surgery is a necessity to remove all the masses and have them sent for testing. If not yet spayed, we'll need to do that too, along with dental surgery. She has one cracked tooth for certain and at least a few rotting teeth that need to be removed.

But one step at a time.

For now, Lady Marmalade is going to know what it's like to be loved to the moon and back. She already got a taste of this thing called love thanks to her caregivers at the shelter. But we're gonna step it up a notch or two or three or a million…'cause there's no such thing as too much love, is there Marmalade?

Gitchie, Gitchie, Ya-Ya, Da-Da, Baby!!! Here Comes the Love!!!
